Job Description

The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator is responsible for the following, but not limited to the following:

  • Arranging and scheduling carriers to fulfill production shipping requirements, obtaining the most economical cost in meeting those requirements
  • Ensuring shipping documents and custom papers are prepared correctly
  • Ensuring that scheduled customer orders are shipped on time, ensuring cost effective and timely transport
  • Entering data for all shipments into the system
  • Keeping production and management team informed of shortages for ordered items prior to shipment
  • Maintaining daily inspection records for forklifts
  • Maintaining shipping department files
  • Monitoring packaging with respect to content, identification and quantities, and sign-off after performing checks on all orders for compliance with the shipping sets
  • Preparing materials for shipping including building pallets, pallet wrapping, banding, etc as well as shrink-wrapping/packaging goods for shipping, which may include making crates when required
  • Operating forklift and pallet jacks to moved or hoist materials
  • Receiving orders – accepting packages, LTL or TL shipments utilizing forklift as required, while adhering to all necessary safety precautions
  • Inspecting goods for damage, quality of workmanship, accuracy/completeness of purchase order and adherence to specifications
  • Ensuring reorder points of stock are set to adequate levels, potentially ordering parts, tools or supplies as needed
  • Assisting with general clean up and organization of shop and outside area including keeping areas swept and wood/pallet management
  • Completing the shop inventory by each Friday, re-stock shelves, assisting in keeping material, shelves and inventory lists current and accurate
  • Helps to maintain tool equipment list, etc
  • Provide general shop assistance when duties are slow
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of shipping functions and processes
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to the sipping process

Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum three (3) years Shipping and Receiving experience
  • Must have customs paperwork experience - freight, ocean, air
  • Must be forklift certified
  • Experience negotiating rates
  • Able to perform in a high-volume, results-focused work environment
  • Able to prioritize workload and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills - able to physically organize materials, adhere to existing organization tools/procedures and help to develop new ones
  • Excellent communication skills, with tenacity to resolve issues in a timely manner while effectively and politely liaising by phone and email with shipping companies, coworkers, management team, etc
  • Able to adapt to changing work demands without compromising accuracy and quality of work
