Job Description

Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager, the Senior HR / H&S Coordinator is responsible for coordinating compliance initiatives of the company and provides administrative support in areas such as employment legislation and standards, policy development and maintenance, records and documentation management, risk assessment and control, accommodation, full cycle recruitment, training, performance reviews, safety audits and inspection, time and attendance tracking, benefits administration, etc.

Human Resources Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and communicate company policy to supervision and associates for consistent and fair compliance in administration for all associates
  • Full cycle recruitment of hourly employees, as directed by the HR Manager and coordination with managers to conduct interviews and recommendations for placement
  • Collection of new hire information for payroll, entering information into the HRIS system and the Timekeeping system
  • Administer benefit program, employee service, disability administrative, maintenance and communication of employee information and/or including benefit invoicing reconciliation
  • Monitor and maintain training records
  • Hourly employee attendance tracking, vacation tracking and issuing of appropriate corrective actions
  • Responsible for employee orientation, including materials and delivery
  • Communication with employees about any issues, questions and concerns as well as posting notice of all communication throughout the facility

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Support regulatory compliance and implementation of industry best practices for workplace health and safety by providing administrative support, guidance and recommendations to all levels of the organization
  • Performing employee orientation, including safety orientation and basic safety training as required
  • Conducting regular inspections, risk assessments and audits as requested / required
  • Acting as certified member of the JHSC – scheduling and attending meetings, managing elections and membership, tracking open meeting and inspection items to ensure completion, etc
  • Maintaining company H&S manual, including developing new policies and revising existing policies as required by legislation and/or company operations and identified risks
  • Maintaining corporate H&S records, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Managing the incident / injury reporting system, including assisting with investigations and root cause analysis, developing and supporting implementation of corrective actions, tracking and monitoring injury, incident and accident statistics, etc
  • Managing work related injury claims including filing WSIB documentation, providing modified duty and accommodation, and supporting the company’s early and safe return to work program


  • Post secondary education in Human Resources Management required
  • Minimum three (3) years of solid HR coordination/generalist experience, along with strong H&S experience
  • H&S Certification a definite asset
  • Experience in a unionized automotive manufacturing facility preferred
  • In depth knowledge of applicable legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation, Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Demonstrated ability to provide beneficial recommendations to solve HR related issues related to regulations, laws and policies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of change management
  • Experience with ADP
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Able to deal with sensitive matters in a tactful, diplomatic and professional manner at all times
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
