Job Description

Reporting directly to the President, the Senior Corporate Controller will be responsible for aligning company finances with company strategic direction and is responsible for conducting high level business and financial analysis that will assist management in making critical business decisions.

The ideal candidate has excellent technical accounting and analytical skills, as well as a passion for problem solving complex issues and hands-on capability to implement short and long term strategic initiatives as well as perform day-to-day tasks in both Finance and HR. The successful candidate is detail-oriented, self directed, able to quickly adapt to change, can prioritize multiple tasks at once and successfully meet all internal and external deadlines. The individual should demonstrate big picture thinking, exhibit discretion in all corporate matters, take on various roles when needed and possess a can-do attitude.

Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

  • Producing and managing the preparation of all financial statements, capital budgets and forecasts
  • Managing and monitoring all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with accounting standards
  • Developing and enforcing internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures and workflow
  • Managing accounting for fixed assets, inventory, debt, corporate taxation, AP/AR, cash flow, etc
  • Providing comprehensive financial updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing and reporting appropriate data points
  • Establishing financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring and reporting standards
  • Coordinating with external parties, companies, banks and regulatory officials to maintain good standing
  • Overseeing the operations of the Finance and HR Department, setting goals and objectives for staff
  • Overseeing journal entry preparation as well as account reconciliations
  • Compiling key business metrics and reporting them to management on a monthly basis
  • Leading annual budgeting and capital planning process
  • Overseeing HR responsibilities including recruiting, payroll, employee relations, etc
  • Providing direct supervision to a team of five to six staff – planning, aligning and directing the work of the team
  • Overseeing IT improvements & training with IT service providers

Qualifications

  • Accredited accounting designation - CMA, CGA, CA
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in a supervisory/management Finance / Controllership role
  • Previous HR and Operational experience a definite asset
  • Strong financial analysis skills
  • Ability to work effectively across organizational lines and promote an effective team-based environment with employees and management at all levels of the organization
  • Strong and experienced leadership capabilities
  • Strong organizational, analytical and conceptual skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Results oriented and the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
