Job Description

Primary responsibility is to generate sales growth by developing new business.  Will proactively develop new business at existing and potential customers. It is expected that strong business relationships will be developed at both the Engineering (product development) and the commercial (purchasing) levels.  It will be the responsibility of the Sales Engineer to:

  1. Develop strong customer relationships though value added in-person marketing and selling
  2. Understand the company target markets and be recognized as an expert
  3. Have strong technical understanding of company portfolio of product offering/manufacturing capabilities
  4. Continuously identify potential new applications, customers and markets


Job duties will include:

  • Generate sales growth through new applications in the assigned products/market – it is expected that face-to-face sales calls will be required, so local travel and overnight travel (rarely) will be expected – once a week to Michigan area (road travel)
  • Account management for assigned account territories
  • Presentations to customers on products and manufacturing capabilities at the engineering, purchasing and production management level
  • Develop strong technical relationships with purchasing and quality personnel and sell at these levels
  • Actively follow-up and negotiate with the customer until purchase order is secured
  • Become a value-added engineering resource to the engineering personnel
  • Develop and communicate an Annual Sales Plan, developed in conjunction with sales management prior to beginning of fiscal year
  • Develop long and short term sales objectives, strategies and tactics to penetrate accounts and grow business
  • Responsible for generating and maintaining sales projects and orders in the information system as outlines – provide proper documentation to keep the rest of the company informed
  • Provide itinerary of planned visits to specific accounts on an annual basis, as well as a weekly call plan – provide account call reports and monthly activity reports
  • Maintain a list of active sales projects and achieve successful close ratio – maintain current status in the Sales Information System (in-house)
  • Work with Inside Sales Engineer/Product Administrators and Customer Service as a team to develop strong business relationships with customer (engineering/ quality, procurement personnel)
  • Manage sales travel expenses within corporate guideline and budgets.  Plan cost effective travel.  Annual travel planning is required as a part of the Annual Sales Plan for the market segment
  • Provide data is support of customer profile, marketing profile and other internal systems
  • Promotes Continuous Improvement by taking the initiative to identify issues and provide solutions with the goal of reducing cost and improving performance



  • Requires an Engineering Degree, with a Mechanical Engineering degree preferred, with a demonstrated technical ability/aptitude
  • A minimum of five (5) years sales experience required
  • Professional in all aspects, including communication (both written and verbal)
  • Must be able to cross border with a viable passport
  • Must pass Mechanical aptitude and comprehension test
