Job Description

The Maintenance / Production Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations ofthe Mill, ensuring that productivity is achieved safely while meeting quality requirements and ensuring customer specifications and all department activities are conducted within the guidelines of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and other requirements.

Duties and responsibilities to include the following, but not limited to:

  • Responsible for the daily activities of the plant personnel (mill, cutting, etc)- includes scheduling, quality control and deliveries to meet customer requirements
  • Assisting in achieving all production related goals, objectives and targets
  • Managing equipment maintenance in a hands on fashion, this includes preventative maintenance programs
  • Coaching employees and control performance ensuring that all established productivity, quality , safety and environment standards are maintained
  • Establishing personnel needs and co-ordinating activities among all work units in order to maintain productivity throughout the department to meet shipping and customer requirements
  • Balancing quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas
  • Managing departmental performance measures, including efficiencies and providing regular progress reports to Branch Manager
  • Maintaining proper inventory levels
  • Managing department priorities
  • Tracking absenteeism and time-keeping
  • Continually analyzing departmental training needs for all employees and developing a plan to achieve these needs
  • Performing other incidental and related duties as required


  • Minimum three (3) years Mechanical / Electrical experience
  • Proven experience in a leadership role
  • Strong mechanical background with the ability to breakdown and understand how manufacturing equipment works including disassembly and reassembly
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the nature of manufacturing methods, mill operation and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Capacity to establish priorities, develop a plan and follow through to completion
  • Ability to balance production realities with customer shipping requirements
  • Customer oriented attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must, as it will be required to be able to give directives, counsel employees, delegate authority and prioritize tasks
