Job Description

The Human Resources Manager provides expert advice, consultation, coaching and support on all HR matters to both operational and functional team members. In addition to providing day to day HR operational services, the HR Manager also plays a critical role in implementing and supporting strategic people initiatives that help drive the achievement of business objectives as well as high employee engagement.

Key responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Promoting a culture where Health & Safety is the #1 priority
  • Advising management on and ensuring compliance with federal, provincial and local laws and regulations governing the employer / employee relationship as well as internal policies and procedures
  • Coaching and advising the operational management teams on the execution of core human resource programs including: performance management, development planning, employee relations, compensation, engagement, benefits, disability management, on boarding and more
  • Working closely with the management team to provide counselling to front-line management  in the operational facility
  • Leading and assisting with all recruitment efforts, including identifications and assistance with role definition – strategic sourcing through a variety of means – posting, screening, interview co-ordination, follow-up, reference verification, offer and negotiation as well as metric tracking
  • Delivering employee orientation and on-boarding activities to ensure new employees are successfully integrated – including providing prospective and new employees with all relevant information about the company, facility, policies and procedures, compensation and benefits, etc
  • Assisting with the facilitation, tracking and co-ordination of employee development and training initiatives with an emphasis on legislated requirements – including AODA, Workplace Violence & Harassment, Health & Safety, etc
  • Managing the processes associated with employee off-boarding, leave of absences, return to work and other employee changes with a keen eye on ensuring a positive employee experience
  • Leading employee performance management processes, including performance reviews, warnings, promotions, compensation adjustments, goals & objectives, etc
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of policies, programs and procedures with a view of improving employee engagement and becoming a top tier employer
  • Maintaining confidential, accurate and comprehensive HR program and personnel records ensuring easy to find and legislatively compliant records
  • Participating in the preparation of a variety of communications to employees with an eye to improving internal communications regarding programs, policies, and employee updates
  • Benefits and WSIB co-ordination and management
  • Participation with respect to employee health, wellness and safety programs
  • Continuously grows and develops operational knowledge and leadership capabilities by participating in professional development opportunities and keeps informed on new and emerging trends in HR
  • Other duties relevant to the position will will be assigned as required

Qualifications

  • Degree in Human Resources
  • CHRP / CHRL a definite asset but not required
  • Minimum five (5) years’ progressive HR experience with significant accountability in all elements of HR, including performance management, recruitment & on boarding, benefits administration, training and development, engagement, off-boarding, legislative compliance, employee and management relations, health & safety, etc
  • Experience working in a Federally regulated workplace
  • Transportation experience an asset
  • A track record of success as a collaborative and motivated leader who has supported HR activities within fast paced environment
  • Results driver with strong business acumen, demonstrating ability to evaluate operation and financial impact of decisions
  • Demonstrated conflict management skills including knowing when to escalate
  • Ability to partner with, influence and successfully coach and counsel at all levels up to the Senior Management level
  • Proven ability to build superior working relationships at all levels and have a great sense of humour, empathy and humility
