Job Description

Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager, the H&S Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and sustaining health and safety plans for the manufacturing facility according to legal and industry guidelines. The H&S Coordinator will work closely with all levels of the company to ensure safe work practices and policies and will oversee all aspects of occupational health & safety.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Developing necessary policies and procedures
  • Providing support to all levels of management and supervision with regards to the implementation of policies and procedures
  • Providing guidance and assistance to managers and employees regarding their roles and responsibilities
  • Advising on risk management strategies designed to mitigate HSE risks to acceptable levels
  • Managing and conducting meetings for health a safety committees such as internal responsibility systems and the Joint Health & Safety team
  • Reviewing occupational health and safety legislation, amendments and best practices to optimize occupational health and safety programs
  • Developing and delivering related training programs in order to meet legislated and other requirements including, but not limited to lockout/tag out, machine guarding, confined space entry, ergonomics, personal protective equipment, emergency response and preparedness, etc
  • Creating and updating return to work program to ensure managers and supervisors and able to return injured employees to productive work following an injury
  • Investigating accidents effectively, and responding appropriately as required
  • Ensuring that regular inspections of the work place are done and that follow-up is complete for outstanding issues
  • Ensuring that work refusals are properly investigated and that any necessary corrections to the work processes are implemented and documented
  • Developing, arranging, tracking and presenting safety training and PPE requirements for all new and existing employees, as well as visitors to ensure complete understanding of potential risks and expected behaviours within the facility
  • Conducting periodic audits, aspect/impact reviews and H&S hazard assessments
  • Maintaining associated records
  • General HR support
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Post secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources Management or related field
  • Minimum three (3) years of solid H&S coordination,
  • General HR experience a definite asset
  • Experience in a unionized automotive manufacturing facility preferred
  • In depth knowledge of applicable legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation, Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Demonstrated ability to provide beneficial recommendations to solve HR related issues related to regulations, laws and policies
  • Experience with accident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis preferred
  • WSIB experience required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
