Job Description

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Finance will play a critical role in driving the overall financial strategy of the company. This position leads and oversees the management of the Finance Department which includes the annual budget preparation and reporting processes, annual audited financial statements, general accounting, development fees and financial agreements, , etc.

As the Director of Finance, you will perform the following duties, including by not limited to:

  • Developing a strong understanding of industry to contribute strategic financial advice to support sound business decisions
  • Supporting senior management in the planning, implementation and evaluation of budgeting and strategic planning initiatives
  • Leading the preparation and analysis of accurate and timely monthly financial and operating reports and providing financial recommendations to management for decision making purposes based on in-depth analysis and reporting
  • Clearly communicating monthly and annual financial statements to Senior Management
  • Analyzing, communicating and assisting operational Managers in investigation of monthly spends, variances in budgets, reporting, internal controls and general accounting; advising on measures to resolve variances
  • Developing systems and key performance measures to appropriately assess financial performance and reviewing progress to ensure strength and continuity of operations to maximize value
  • Managing capital assets and ensuring that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed
  • Overseeing and leading annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with Senior Management team
  • Overseeing all accounting functions including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice coding, reconciliation, credits, inventory, etc
  • Directly responsible for Banking and Treasury, cash flow management, cash forecast and timely reporting to the bank
  • Developing, implementing and ensuring compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures in accordance with Accounting practices
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring effective internal controls and processes
  • Overseeing monthly and year ending financial closing processes for both Canadian and US
  • Preparing quarterly financial reports and official annual report comprised of full set of financial statements
  • Providing timely support and feedback to both internal and external customers on request
  • Participating in the due diligence and financial modelling for potential merger and acquisition activity
  • Leading, mentoring and inspiring the finance and accounting team to ensure development of best practices and skills, process improvement, critical and strategic thinking and pro-active problem solving in support of the business
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Degree in Commerce, Finance or Accounting
  • Recognized professional accounting designation - CPA, CA, CMA, CGA
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in a Senior Finance role (Director, Corporate/Operational Controller, or equivalent) within a fast-paced, manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated technical excellence in accounting, financial planning and analysis, budgeting and forecasting with the ability to act as both a hands-on technician and strategic level leader
  • Strong working knowledge in financial and operational reporting, analysis and modelling and a demonstrated ability to interpret financial information to provide sound strategic financial advice
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions
  • Proven ability to develop, lead, challenge and motivate a best in class, high performing team
  • Strong IT capabilities
