Job Description

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for guiding financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures. The Controller will direct financial analysis, budget, cost controls and reporting for a significant business division. As a key finance team member, the successful candidate will be engaged in meeting growth and profitability objectives by:

  • Providing strategic and tactical interpretation of key business measurements
  • Translating measurements and analyses into sound financial decisions
  • Identifying and analyzing operational and spending variances
  • Generating divisional financial reporting including monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Providing support to other segments including accounting, sales service, and sales

Responsibilities to include the following, but not limited to:

  • Responsible for managing the entire accounting function at the facility, including cash and bank, accounts receivable, inventory, capital assets, accounts payable, inter-company transactions, Budgeting, Payroll and ad-hoc reporting requests from leaders
  • Overseeing the month-end close process
  • Preparing and reviewing forecasts and communicating any changes from previous forecasts
  • Reviewing and approving standard and non-standard journal entries each month
  • Implementing and maintaining internal controls to ensure compliance
  • Assisting in annual audit and tax compliance work. Providing all the necessary information to the internal audit department during their audit and immediately addressing any concerns that are identified.
  • Taking a leadership role in the preparation of the budget – including involving various departmental managers in the development of manpower and controllable spending budgets to encourage accountability and ownership of departmental performance vs. budget.
  • Thoroughly understanding all capital spending projects prior to submitting to Corporate for review and approval, including investment/return calculations. Collecting and reviewing all information required for capital requests, ensuring all approvals have been received prior to spending
  • Completing performance goals and objectives for the accounting team, ensuring continuous development of staff
  • Performing other duties as assigned by CFO and other Senior management.

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting and/or Finance
  • CPA, CA designation required
  • Minimum five (5) years Accounting experience
  • At least three (3) years experience in a Controller or Assistant Controller role with hands-on leadership experience in a manufacturing environment with complete responsibility over a full function accounting and finance department
  • Proven staff management / supervisory experience
  • Independent, critical thinker who displays attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain an effective system of internal controls over all financial areas
  • Excellent organizational , interpersonal and time management skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Must be flexible and be able to adapt to changing business requirements in a growing company
  • Advanced knowledge of excel, working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
